Why would you want to use kratom anyways? That’s a great question! Unfortunately, this article doesn’t address that question! Today we’re going to focus on kratom tolerance. What is kratom tolerance build-up, and how does it relate to kratom consumption?
When you use any substance regularly, kratom included, you will eventually become tolerant to the dosage size you take. Becoming tolerant means that the amount you consume no longer provides the same level of effects that you are used to.
Using the same kratom strain repeatedly will weaken its effects. This is why different rotating strains of kratom is so important. Keeping your kratom tolerance low by trying other kratom strains is the best way to avoid a plateau in effects.
We are born adaptors. Our body adapts to whatever we throw at it. Rotating kratom strains is a great way to keep your body on its toes, but there may be a time when a full kratom tolerance break may be beneficial.
My goal with this article is to help you reduce the chances of having a kratom tolerance (stop using kratom for at least one week).
Kratom Strain Rotation 101
To maximize your kratom use, you must understand what makes kratom strains different. Understand diverse strains and their unique effects. Strains from Thailand like Maeng Da as well as strains from Borneo or Bali may have the same vein color but possess different effects.
Red vein strains are known to reduce inflammation and ease discomfort, green vein strains are known to be a balance of discomfort relief and mental stimulant, and white vein kratom strains are known to work heavily on boosting energy, reducing stress, and enhancing your mood.
Having different strain colors is the first step in preventing kratom tolerance build-up. The more kratom strains you have helping your body, the more effective the kratom can be.
While I cannot guarantee that using different strains will produce better effects, I can say that you are more likely to find your ultimate kratom dose with a little experimentation.
Example Schedule: Rotating Multiple Kratom Strains
Please keep in mind these are examples only! Your kratom experience will be different than mine.
The reasons why you consume kratom, the type you take, when you take, along with your medical background, diet, and weight things are all things to consider before creating your kratom strain rotation schedule.
- Sunday: Red Maeng Da
- Monday: Super Green Malay
- Tuesday: Red Maeng Da capsules
- Wednesday: White Borneo
- Thursday: Green Bali and Red Bali
- Friday: Red Maeng Da and Green Maeng Da
- Saturday: White Maeng Da and Green Bali
Example Schedule: Rotating Only 2 Strains
While using two different strains might help extend the potency of effects without building up a kratom tolerance, it’s really hard to tell which stain is actually providing the effects you are feeling.
- Sunday: Green Maeng Da
- Monday: Green Maeng Da with orange juice
- Tuesday: UEI Ultra Enhanced Indo
- Wednesday: Green Maeng Da
- Thursday: UEI Ultra Enhanced Indo
- Friday: Kratom Tolerance break or Green Maeng Da
- Saturday: UEI Ultra Enhanced Indo
Stagnant Strain Syndrome
The term might sound silly, but stagnant strain syndrome simply means using the same kratom strain repeatedly.
Every kratom strain from Gold Bali to Red Maeng Da is unique. They produce their own effects on the body.
While kratom is the same plant, just like cannabis, there are many different strain types. Cultivation techniques, time to harvest, and the curing process all play a role in the different types of effects kratom can produce.
Switching your kratom strains daily can help you avoid having to increase your kratom dose.
If the alkaloid levels that you once needed to ease your discomfort or feel motivated are no longer effective, you might want to try a blend of different kratom strains.
Avoiding Kratom Tolerance Build-Up
Unfortunately, you can’t prevent Kratom tolerance completely, it is inevitable. Fortunately for you, there are a few steps you can take to delay the process.
First and foremost is strain rotation. Switching your kratom routine daily will be more beneficial than a static consumption routine. If you can, try to use kratom every other day instead of multiple days in a tow.
A gold or yellow vein color kratom strain is usually a premium blend of green, white, and red vein kratom strains. Try using this color, or making a DIY blend of your favorite green, red, and white kratom strains.
If you use kratom more than three times a week, have different strains on standby. Using a kratom potentiator can actually increase the likelihood of Kratom tolerance build-up occurring.
You are desensitizing the receptors that the alkaloids (compounds that produce effects) work on within your body, making it easier for your body to adapt to the dosage you’re consuming.
Kratom Potentiators
A potentiator is a substance you can add to your kratom to make your dose more potent.
Kratom users may need a stronger dose for many reasons, and nobody wants to deal with Kratom tolerance build-up.
Having to consume double your kratom dose to reap the same therapeutic benefits is no fun. It is also hard on the wallet, hard on your body, and probably hard on your mental outlook.
Feeling high on Monday and Tuesday and then not feeling as great on Wednesday even though you did nothing different may come as a shock for new kratom users.
Magnesium is the so-called ultimate kratom potentiator.
Document Your Consumption
Not only should you be planning your kratom consumption with a rotation schedule, but you should also be documenting your kratom journey. With a journal, you can easily refer back to the size of your dose, which strain you used, the effects you felt, and the duration of the effects.
For example, if you’re using the example schedule above and it’s a Wednesday, you would be using White Borneo.
Document your dose size and the effects you felt. That way if you’re feeling different the next week, you can quickly look back in your journal and better understand why you think the way you do.
Final Thoughts
The best thing you can do to keep your tolerance low without taking a tolerance break is to keep multiple kratom strains on rotation.
Documenting your kratom journey is a great way to understand your perfect kratom dose.
Whichever strain seems to be most effective at the lowest possible dosage size is an excellent indicator that you are on the right track.
Remember to keep an open mind, and ensure you are purchasing high-quality kratom products from a reputable vendor. As always, stay lifted.
